두 명의 현대음악 작곡가가 모였다. 이들은 기존의 음악회장에서 보이는 음악에만 국한된 공연 형태에서 벗어나 시각과 공간적인 요소를 융합하는 새로운 개념의 공연예술을 무대에 올리고자 “시도하다, 감행하다”의 뜻을 지닌 프랑스어 단어 oser(“오제”)를 단체 이름으로 선정하고 활동을 시작했다.
오제는 서울시 문화재단 문래예술공장 공연을 시작으로 여러 활동을 통해 그동안 상대적으로 활성화 되어있지 않은 아쿠스틱(acoustic) 아방가르드(avant-garde) 음악을 소개하고, 관객들이 새로운 경험을 넓혀나갈 수 있는 기회를 제공하며, 음악뿐 아니라 다른 예술 영역과의 협력과 콜라보 사업을 확장시켜 통합적인 새로운 예술 계층을 형성할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다. 또한, 기존의 정통 클래식 음악의 정형성을 벗어나 음악이라는 매체가 예술의 한 형태로서 현대에서 어떤 의미를 가지고 존재할 수 있는지를 조망하여, 이후 현대 클래식 음악에 대한 인식을 넓힐 수 있는 방안을 모색하고자 한다.

OZe is created by two composers of classical training who specialise in contemporary music. The primary interest of the group is to embody compositions that contain visual and spacial elements and to give platform for performances of such works, which are mostly ill-fitted in traditional concert venues. The name OZe comes from the pronunciation of the french verb oser.
The Seoul-Foundation-of-Arts-and-Culture-funded inaugural event will take place on the 8th of October 2011 in Seoul Art Space Mullae, where acustic avant-garde will be showcased and given chance for a wider audience. OZe also aims to engage in collaborative projects with visual artists and dancers to create a pool of multi-disciplinary artists, and to explore the meanings of music performance in a contemporary society.
